Leaders of Ganatantra Mancha, a combine of six political parties, on Thursday demanded holding the next general elections by 2025.

Saiful Huq, coordinator of the combine and also general secretary of the Revolutionary Workers Party, at a press conference at the Nagarik Oikya central office in the capital Dhaka said that it was possible to hold the next general elections by 2025 after introducing required reforms on the basis of consensus of the political parties.


The leaders of the combine expressed concerns for the interim government鈥檚 failure to control law and order situation and check price hikes of the essential commodities.

If the general elections are delayed, the role of the interim government headed by Muhammad Yunus might face question, they said.

Nagarik Oikya president Mahmudur Rahman Manna said that the main target of the interim government would be holding free, fair and credible general elections as early as possible.

The interim government has no scope for reinstalling the previous councillors of the local government which was dissolved.

Bhashani Onusari Parishad convener Sheikh Rafiqul Islam Bablu said that keeping the administration of the fascist government intact, it would not be possible to implement the spirits of students-people movement in July-August.

Ganosamhati Andolan executive coordinator Abul Hassan Rubel called on the interim government to ensure safety and security of the organisers of the students-people movement.

Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-JSD general secretary Shahid Uddin Mahmod Shapon said that for the restoration of democratic rule in the country, it would require reforms in the state machinery and the constitution.

Saiful Huq said that the Mancha would hold a protest rally at Purana Paltan Crossing in the capital on December 23 to press home its demands.
