At least seven people were rescued after a fire had broken out at the Love Leen Restaurant at Uttara in the capital on Friday morning.

A dozen of fire-fighting units doused the fire after trying for three and a half hours.

A warehouse inspector at the Fire Service and Civil Defence, Anwarul Islam, said that the fire broke out at about 10:30am at the restaurant, housed on the ground floor in the six-storey building.

‘The fire spread to the second floor of the building. Firefighters rescued seven people trapped on different floors of the building except the ground floor,’ he said.

One of the rescued persons got dehydrated due to smoke of the fire and was admitted to a city hospital, he said, adding that the other six people were rescued safe.

Fire service official Anwarul said, ‘Heavy smoke engulfed the building after the fire had broken out. Fire service workers had to work quickly to control the fire.’

It was primarily believed that the fire was originated from the kitchen of the restaurant, probably because of gas leakage, he said.

‘The cause of the fire, however, could be known after a proper investigation,’ he added.

In a separate incident, a six-story building at Block C in Banasree, Dhaka, caught fire on Friday night, and firefighters extinguished the fire within half an hour.

‘The fire originated on the third floor of the building at 8:35pm and firefighters doused it at about 9:30pm,’ said Anwarul Islam, a warehouse inspector at Fire Service and Civil Defence.

Two units from Baridhara and Khilgaon fire stations went on the spot to douse the fire. No casualties were reported and the cause of the fire could not be known immediately, he added.
