Bangladesh Nationalist Party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said on Sunday that deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina was engaged in hatching conspiracy and spreading false information against the country and its people even from India.

‘Even after fleeing to the other side (India), Hasina is conspiring and spreading false information saying that Hindus are being tortured in the country,’ he said.

Fakhrul came up with the remarks while addressing a rally held in Sakoa High  School field in Panchagarh.

Noting that there is no incident of torture of Hindus in Bangladesh, he said, ‘We Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, and Christians are all living together here.’

‘We all have to stand against those who spread false information,’ he added.

About the election, he said that a section of people became unhappy whenever the party raised the issue of elections.

Noting that the concept of reforms is not well understood by many people, Fakhrul said, ‘We want to reclaim our voting rights. I want to cast my vote and give it to whoever I please. But when we talk about this, some people get displeased and question why we keep bringing this up,’ he said.

He said, ‘We demand voting rights because if we can cast our votes, we will be able to elect right people for ourselves. Those representatives will work for the welfare of us as well as the country.’

Fakhrul also said ‘We want reforms. Our leader, [Khaleda Zia] gave Vision Bangladesh 2030 in 2016. Our leader, Tarique Rahman, also gave a 31-point reform proposal.’
