Today is Christmas Day, the birthday of Jesus Christ, Jewish preacher and religious leader of the first-century.

The Christians of different groups in Bangladesh and elsewhere across the world will celebrate the day amid festivity and religious fervour.


They will celebrate the day by offering special prayers,聽 illuminating churches, and installing makeshift Christmas trees at homes and places of worship as well as missions across the country.

Elderly people of the community, attired with the outfit of Santa Claus, usually have fun with children and distribute gifts among kids as part of a universal Christian practice.

The day is a public holiday.

Chief adviser professor Muhammad Yunus exchanged greetings with representatives of the Christian community on the occasion of the Christmas Day at the State Guest House Jamuna on Tuesday.

In separate messages, president Mohammed Shahabuddin and chief adviser professor Muhammad Yunus greeted members of the Christian community on the occasion.

They wished peace, welfare, and prosperity to all citizens, including Christians, of the country.

Meanwhile, president Mohammed Shahabuddin will host a reception for the Christian community members at Bangabhaban Tuesday noon.

The reception programme for the Christian community members would begin at 12:00pm at the Durbar Hall of the Bangabhaban, president鈥檚 press secretary Md Sarwar Alam said.

The head of the state is scheduled to exchange greetings with the Christian community members on the occasion. Five hundred guests have been invited to the presidential palace.
