
The police recovered the body of a college girl hanging from the ceiling of a room at her home on Baptist Mission Road in Barishal city on Monday.
The girl was taken to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital where the doctor on duty pronounced her dead, the police said.
Officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Mizanur Rahman said that the body would be handed over to the family after autopsy.
The deceased, Shammi Akhter, 22, was the daughter of Shahjahan Howlader at Patuakhali Sadar and a second-year degree student of Government Syed Hatem Ali College.
Sub-inspector Miraj Mollah of Barishal Kotwali Police said that Shammi used to live in a tin-shed house rented by her father, adjacent to Anwar Mosque on the Baptist Mission Road in the city.
Miraj said that on Monday morning, locals found Shammi hanging from the ceiling of a room at her house.
Later, she was rescued with the help of police and taken to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital, where the doctor on duty declared her dead.
SI Miraj said that it was initially believed that the victim might have committed suicide.
The body has been sent to the morgue for autopsy, the SI said, adding that the matter is being investigated.
