The railways adviser, Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan, on Tuesday said that one of the causes of the crisis in Bangladesh Railway was misuse of money.

‘One of the causes behind the railway’s current situation is misuse of money. Rail stations were built everywhere and lines were expanded without considering the number of locomotives, coaches and workforces,’ he said.

At an inaugural ceremony of two new pairs of trains on Khulna-Dhaka-Khulna route, the adviser urged the stakeholders to be cost-effective.

The inaugural ceremony of commercial train operation through Padma Bridge rail link via the Bhanga junction and Narail was organised by Bangladesh Railway at Dhaka railway station in the Kamalapur area in the capital.

The new Jahanabad Express started from Khulna in the morning and reached Dhaka at around 10:30am with passengers.

Later, the train started from the station with the name of new Ruposhi Bangla Express to Benapole.

Using these trains the passengers can travel on Dhaka-Khulna and Dhaka-Benapole routes in only four hours and a half which was seven to nine hours earlier.

The Jahanabad Express will run on the Noapara-Singia-Narail-Lohagara-Kashiani-Bhanga route and will start from Khulna at 6:00am and from Dhaka at 8:00pm every day except Monday.

The Ruposhi Bangla Express will run on the Jashore-Narail-Lohagora-Kashiani-Bhanga route and will start from Dhaka at 10:45am and from Benapole at 3:30pm every day except Monday.

Chinese ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen attended the event as a special guest while railways ministry secretary Md Fahimul Islam chaired the ceremony.
