
The advisory committee on government purchase at a meeting on Thursday approved five proposals, four to buy 1.3 crore tonnes of fertiliser and another to buy 1 cargo of liquefied natural gas.
The meeting was presided over by finance adviser Salehuddin Ahmed at the cabinet division at the Secretariat, next to the Building Number 7 that caught fire overnight, according finance ministry officials.
No reporters were allowed to enter into the Secretariat on the day after the fire damaging upper floors of the eight-storey building. A fire-fighter also died during that time as a truck ran over him on the road nearby when he was busy in working with his team to douse the fire.
Finance ministry officials said that under two proposals, 30,000 tonnes of urea fertiliser under each was to be purchased from Karnaphuli Fertiliser Company and Sabic Agri-nutrient Company of Saudi Arabia at $343 per tonne and $349 per tonne respectively.
Another 30,000 tonnes of muriate of potash fertiliser will be purchased from Russia with per tonne costing $489.75, while 40,000 tonnes of diammonium phosphate to be purchased from Morocco with per tonne costing $584.
M/S Posco International Corporation, Incheon of South Korea, will supply one cargo of LNG with per unit costing $14.69.
This is the fourth imported LNG cargo bought for the coming 2025.
Earlier, the advisory committee on economic affairs approved a proposal from the energy division, enabling the Petrobangla to purchase LNG through the selected 23 companies from the international spot market in line with the then public procurement rules 2008.
