
Law enforcement officials seized 20 gold bars, worth approximately Tk 2.60 crore, from a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram Thursday morning.
The gold bars, weighing 2.33kg, were wrapped in plastic tape and hidden under seat 9J of flight BG-148, which arrived from Dubai at 9:15am.
A detained passenger named Atia Samia from Rajshahi works as a sales officer in a gold shop in Dubai.
The operation was carried out by the airport security branch and the customs intelligence and investigation department, based on a tip-off from the national security intelligence, said Shah Amanat Airport public relations officer Ibrahim Khalil.
The recovered gold bars were handed over to customs detectives for further investigation. Legal proceedings are underway, and a case is being prepared at Patenga model police station in Chattogram.
