
The prices of several essential commodities, including vegetables, potatoes, onions and broiler chickens, remained high, while some items witnessed price reductions on the kitchen markets in the capital Dhaka over the week ending Friday.
The price of broiler chicken increased, with the item selling for Tk 210-230 per kilogram. The Sonalika variety of chicken was sold for about Tk 300 per kilogram on the day.
On Friday, aubergine sold for Tk 60-80 per kilogram, papaya for Tk 40-50 per kilogram, bitter gourd for Tk 70-80 per kilogram, beans for Tk 40-50 per kilogram, cauliflower for Tk 40-50 apiece, radish for Tk 20-40 per kilogram and tomato for Tk 80-120 per kilogram.
The price of green chillies remained stable, with the item selling for Tk 60-80 per kilogram in the city on the day.
Price of potatoes saw a slight decrease but remained high, selling for Tk 70-80 per kilogram on the city鈥檚 kitchen markets on Friday.
Local onions were sold for Tk 70-110 per kilogram, while the imported variety sold for Tk 80 per kilogram.
Packaged soya bean oil also experienced a slight rise in its price as the item sold for Tk 180 per litter on the city鈥檚 kitchen markets on Friday.
A five-litre bottle of soya bean oil sold for Tk 850 on the markets.
The price of rice also remained high.
Coarse and medium-quality varieties of rice were sold for Tk 65-68 per kilogram on Friday.
The price of eggs remained unchanged, with the item selling for Tk 45-50 per hali (four pieces) on the city鈥檚 kitchen markets.
Red lentil sold for Tk 120-140 per kilogram on the day.
Retailers said that the prices of some vegetables decreased slightly due to the recent increase in supply.
However, consumers noted that the prices of several vegetables were still not coming down enough.
