The unavailability of tickets caused chaos among fans, who vandalised and set fire to the Bangladesh Premier League ticket booths adjacent to gate five of the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, in Mirpur on Thursday.

The 11th edition of BPL, which started on December 30, has been marred with incidents regarding the availability of tickets.

On Thursday, ahead of the double-header between Durbar Rajshahi-Dhaka Capitals and Rangpur Riders-Fortune Barishal, fans got agitated when they learned the tickets were sold out or unavailable.

The frustrated crowd vandalised a ticket booth at the Swimming Complex in Mirpur, next to gate five and also broke the window of a nearby establishment.

Members of law enforcement brought the situation under control. No one was injured and no arrest has been made following the chaos.

Some fans also expressed frustration over having to purchase match tickets at higher prices from black marketers.

On the opening day, fans broke the main gate of the stadium, which prompted police to use batons to disperse the desperate fans.

The BCB has begun to sell tickets online this year. Tickets can also be bought from some selected branches of Modhumoti Bank PLC as well as selected booths set by BCB.

The stadium, though, hasn鈥檛 been a reflection of the ongoing demands of the tickets. On Thursday, the gallery was almost half-empty during the first match.
