Students of the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh on Thursday night withdrew their hunger strike after the university authorities agreed to take measures regarding their demands.
‘We withdrew our hunger strike at around 11:00pm after a six-point decision was taken by the university administration and students,’ ULAB student Farhan Hasan Borno said on Friday.
According to the decisions, the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh or education ministry will form an investigation committee within three working days and the vice-chancellor, Imran Rahman, will refrain from performing his duties until the submission of the committee report.
The decisions also included that no faculty members, officials, staff members and students of the university will side with anyone relating to ousted Sheikh Hasina’s fascist regime and no actions will be taken against the protesting students.
Students under the banner of Students Against Fascism began hunger strike on Thursday afternoon on the second day of the protest to press home their five-point demand including the VC’s resignation and removal of the trustee members who allegedly collaborated with the fascist regime and were involved in corruption.
The protest was sparked after the ULAB placed two students on probation for creating graffiti on campus, terming the act as a violation of the institution’s code of conduct.
Facing teachers’ protest, the authorities withdrew the probation but failed to appease the protesters. Â
