
Language Movement heroine and former lawmaker Marium Begum passed away at a hospital in Dhaka on Thursday.
She is survived by two daughters and a son. Her namaz-e-janaza held after jumma prayer at Masjid Al Magfirah, Uttara, Dhaka on Friday, said a press release on Saturday.听

Born in 1923 in Faridpur, Marium Begum served as general secretary of the Gandaria Mahila Samity, advancing women鈥檚 empowerment. In 1955, she founded Rupayan, becoming one of Bangladesh鈥檚 first female entrepreneurs.
After 1971, she helped to establish Bangladesh Mahila Punarbasan Sangstha, providing support for Biranganas and their children. Later, as a member of parliament, she advocated for social justice and women鈥檚 rights.
