Gonoforum emeritus president and eminent jurist Dr Kamal Hossain on Sunday called on the political parties to maintain national unity for implementation of the July movement spirit to establish a democratic Bangladesh.

Dr Kamal at a press conference at the National Press Club said that after the overthrow of the fascist Awami League government on August 5 amid a student-mass uprising a scope was created for establishing a discrimination free country by the interim government headed by Professor Muhammad Yunus.


Dr Kamal said that national unity was already forged comprising the pro-uprising political parties for implementation of that spirit.

‘We must hold this unity which was formed on the basis of the national consensus of language movement of 1952, War of Independence, 1972 constitution, and the spirit of student-mass uprising of 2024 for establishing a discrimination-free, democratic country,’ said the eminent jurist.

He also called on the political parties to cooperate with the interim government to implement the spirit of the uprising.

He also called on the interim government not to create any controversy by bringing changes in the issues already settled through the War of Independence of 1971 as it would create barrier in establishing a discrimination-free democratic Bangladesh.

Presidium member of the party Subrata Chowdhury read out a written speech of Dr Kamal Hossain who attended the press conference.

President of the party Mostafa Mohsin Montu said that his party wanted democratic transition of the country for which the interim government should give next general elections as early as possible carrying out reforms that were most required.  

At the press conference, full central committee of the party was announced by organization general secretary Mizanur Rahman. The full committee was formed in the last national council held on November 30 in Dhaka city.
