A five-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her neighbour in a village under Kalapara upazila in Patuakhali district early Sunday.
The victim鈥檚 family alleged that their neighbour named Kashem, 35, took her away from her sleeping mother in their house at about 4:00am on Sunday and raped her.
According to police and the child's family members, Kashem works as a laborer at the house in the village.
As the victim鈥檚 mother had a hearing disability, she could not understand that Kashem took away her daughter from their house. Kashem took the victim near a pond where he allegedly raped her and brought her back to the house after about an hour.
The victim鈥檚 mother noticed the victim鈥檚 bleeding and rushed her to Kalapara Hospital from where she was referred to Barishal Sher e Bangla Medical College Hospital on Sunday.
Kalapara police station officer-in-charge Jewel Islam said that the police visited the spot.
He said that they were trying to arrest the accused.
