Politicians, academics and professionals on Monday at a discussion stressed the need for following ideals of political thinker Serajul Alam Khan for the country’s reform.

They said that the ideals of Serajul Alam Khan, who on June 9, 2023, could be followed for reforms of the ruling system by the interim government headed by Professor Muhammad Yunus.


Serajul Alam Khan Research Foundation organised the discussion at the Biswa Sahitya Kendra auditorium at Banlgamotor to mark the 84th anniversary of birth of political thinker Serajul Alam Khan where convener of foundation journalist Abu Sayeed Khan chaired.

Bangladesh Jasod president Sharif Nurul Ambia said that Serajul Alam Khan was a politician who worked for establishing a repression and oppression free country.

He made a 14-point proposal for reforms of the ruling system of the country to make it pro-people and establish rights of the people.

Former Dhaka University professor and economist Mahbub Ullah said that Serajul Alam Khan was a true politician who wanted to establish democratic rights of the common people.  

‘We can follow his political ideals for establishing a discrimination-free democratic country after the fall of fascist rule of the Sheikh Hasina government,’ Mahbub Ullah said.

Lawyer ZI Khan Panna expressed his dissatisfaction of the role of the interim government in the past five months saying that they did not create any hope for establishing a discrimination-free democratic society.

Former education minister during last BNP government Osman Faroque, freedom fighter Fahfuzur Rahman, lawyer Subrata Chowdhury, former secretary Abu Alam Mohammad Shahid Khan, politicians Ruhin Hossain Prince, Bazlur Rashid Firoz, Saiful Huq, human right activist Nur Khan, academics Sakhawat Hossain Tutul lawyer Farah Khan  and others spoke at the discussion meeting.     

Serajul Alam Khan Centre and Research institute also oraganised a separate discussion at its auditorium in Baridhara to mark the birthday.
