A Narayanganj court on Monday placed Mahfuzur Rahman Konok, a former detective branch sub-inspector, on five-day remand in a case filed over the murder of Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Jubo Dal activist Shaon in the district.
Additional chief judicial magistrate Abdullah Al Masum passed the order as police produced Konok before the court and pleaded to place him on seven-day remand in the case, court inspector Qayum Khan said.
According to police sources, accused Konok, while working at the detective branch, fired indiscriminately during a clash with police before the start of a Bangladesh Nationalist Party anniversary procession in 2022. Shaon was shot in the chest in the firing and died on the spot.
He was removed from the DB office, after photos of him firing at the procession circulated in the social media.
On October 21, 2024, Shaon鈥檚 elder brother Milon Pradhan filed a case with Narayanganj Sadar police station.
The case named 52 people as accused, including the then district magistrate, police superintendent and five former MPs.
