A five-day art exhibition of Dhaka University鈥檚 printmaking department titled Annual Art Exhibition 2023 and 2024 began at the Zainul Gallery of the university on Sunday.

The exhibition displayed 180 artworks created by using different techniques in printmaking including woodcut, etching and lithography, and also drawings on paper by pencil, pen and poster colour.


Sixteen students received different awards for their artworks.

All Media Best Experimental Award in the Master of Fine Arts category titled Shilpaguru Safiuddin Ahmed Award, was received by Abu-Al-Naeem for 2024 and Riturupa Talukder Sathi for 2023.

The award comprises a crest, a certificate and Tk 50,000 as prize money.

Experimental Award in the MFA category titled Artist Mohammad Kibria Award was received by Shoikot Ahmed for 2024 and Sumaiya Sanjin for 2023.

All Media Best Award in Bachelor of Fine Arts titled Artist Mahmudul Haque Award was received by Istinarah Surrat Nubah for 2024 and Sahadeb Biswas for 2023.

The award comprises a crest, a certificate and Tk 15,000 as prize money.

Artist Habibur Rahman Memorial Award was received by Mehjabin Islam for 2024 and Pinak Chandra Das for 2023.

The award comprises a crest and certificate.

Besides Umme Hafsa, Soumik Ghosh Swaccha, Tajriba Akter, Shanta Islam Mim, Joy Chakma, Arifa Jahan Sharna, Md Faizur Rahman Firoz and Miftahul Zannat Naberi received the best award for different media.

The DU pro-vice-chancellor for education professor Mamun Ahmed inaugurated the exhibition as chief guest and handed over crests to award winners while honorary professor of printmaking department Syed Abul Barq Alvi, chairman of the Board of Trustees of Shanto-Mariam University of Creative Technology professor Mostafizul Haque and Safiuddin Shilpalay founder artist Ahmed Nazir were present as special guest at the inaugural ceremony at the Osman Jamal Auditorium of the faculty.

Convener of the exhibition, Anisuzzaman Anis, and chairman of the department, Asmita Alam Shammy, also spoke at the event which was chaired by faculty of fine art dean, Md Azharul Islam Sheikh.

The exhibition will end on January 9.
