The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit has sought details of the bank accounts of Tulip Siddiq, her sister Azmina Siddiq, and five other members of the ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s family.

This move comes amid media reports that Tulip resided in the United Kingdom in multiple flats provided by individuals linked to Sheikh Hasina. Tulip’s mother Sheikh Rehana Siddiq is younger sister of Sheikh Hasina.

Earlier on December 8, 2024, information about the bank accounts of Hasina and Rehana was sought. The latest request also included updated information about their bank accounts.

According to the BFIU letter, details of bank accounts in the name of Sheikh Hasina, Sheikh Rehana, Hasina’s son Sajeeb Ahmed Wazed (Joy), daughter Saima Wazed Hossain (Putul), Rehana’s son Radwan Mujib Siddiq, daughter Tulip Rizwana Siddiq and Azmina Siddiq must be sent to the financial intelligence agency.

Banks were asked to provide details of the listed individuals’ accounts, including those of their spouses and children, along with KYC documents, account opening forms and transaction records.

While bank account details of the others from the family were requested earlier, this is the first instance in which information about Tulip and Azmina has been sought. It remains unclear whether Azmina Siddiq is a Bangladeshi citizen, as the BFIU letter only mentioned national identification numbers for all but Azmina.

The British city minister, Tulip Siddiq, lived in a second property reportedly given to her family by an ally of her aunt, Sheikh Hasina, according to a The Telegraph report on January 4.

The report said that Tulip, a labour minister who is responsible for tackling financial crimes and corruption, lived in a flat in Hampstead, north London, after it was given to her to use by her teenage sister, Azmina.

A Bangladeshi lawyer, who was found to be photographed with the former prime minister, handed the Hampstead property to Azmina in 2009, said the report.

Earlier, British newspaper The Financial Times reported that Tulip was given a central London apartment by a person linked to the Awami League led by Sheikh Hasina.
