A Bangladeshi youth was injured as the Indian Border Security Force opened fire targeting a group of Bangladesh nationals along the Baghachipara border area under Shibganj upazila in Chapainawabganj early Saturday.
The injured, Shahidul Islam, 22, of Bagachipara village 鈥� was admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
Sankar K Biswas, the in-charge of RMCH emergency department, said that the victim鈥檚 family members took bullet injured Shahidul to the hospital at around 5:00am.
鈥楽hahidul received a bullet in his right chest. He had to undergo an immediate surgery in the morning. His condition is now stable,鈥� he added.
The 59th BGB battalion commander lieutenant colonel Golam Kibria said that he heard that a Bangladesh national was injured in BSF firing during a smuggling attempt.
聽鈥榃e have also recovered twenty-five bottles of Phensedyl from the Bagachipara border and have lodged a case with the local police station in this connection,鈥� he added.
According to human rights organisation Ain o Salish Kendra, at least 25 Bangladeshis were shot to death by the BSF members, while 25 others were injured between January and December in 2024.
