
A Bangladeshi youth was injured as the Indian Border Security Force opened fire targeting a group of Bangladesh nationals along the Baghachipara border area under Shibganj upazila in Chapainawabganj early Saturday.
The injured, Shahidul Islam, 22, of Bagachipara village – was admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
Sankar K Biswas, the in-charge of RMCH emergency department, said that the victim’s family members took bullet injured Shahidul to the hospital at around 5:00am.
‘Shahidul received a bullet in his right chest. He had to undergo an immediate surgery in the morning. His condition is now stable,’ he added.
The 59th BGB battalion commander lieutenant colonel Golam Kibria said that he heard that a Bangladesh national was injured in BSF firing during a smuggling attempt.
 ‘We have also recovered twenty-five bottles of Phensedyl from the Bagachipara border and have lodged a case with the local police station in this connection,’ he added.
According to human rights organisation Ain o Salish Kendra, at least 25 Bangladeshis were shot to death by the BSF members, while 25 others were injured between January and December in 2024.
