
Bangladesh Walking Club, a non-profit organisation, observed the 9th National Walking Day in 10 districts-upazilas, including Dhaka, on Saturday.
To mark the day, members of the club gathered, wearing colourful t-shirts, in front of the National Museum at Shahbag at 10:00am and held a rally, said a press release.
The club members carried banners and placards at the rally and moved toward the National Press Club. Later, they concluded the programme with a short speech there.
The rally was presided over by the central vice-president of the organisation Md Habibur Rahman, while president of the club Md Faruk Hossain Tapader, a lawyer of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, was present as chief guest. The organising secretary of the club’s central committee Zahirul Haque was the moderator.
Also present were the organisational finance secretary Enayet Hossain, co-secretary Hasan Rana, president of the organisation’s Dhaka Metropolitan branch Mamunur Rashid, general secretary advocate Gazi Tanzil, central and district leaders and members of the club.
‘To keep the body healthy, walking is the main motto’ - with the slogan, Bangladesh Walking Club has been working to create awareness about the benefits of walking among people since 2014. In continuation of this, the club has been celebrating the National Walking Day on the second Saturday of January since 2017. In addition to walking, the club has been distributing winter clothes and Eid clothes to street children every year since 2014 as part of its social activities. In addition, club members have been providing of assistance to disaster-hit people nationwide.
