Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana Joty was confident to beat the West Indies in the three-match ODI series to avail direct qualification in the 2025 Women’s 50-over World Cup.

The team is scheduled to fly for the West Indies for their first white-ball series on Tuesday, five years after their first visit for the T20 World Cup in 2018.

The three ODIs are scheduled for January 19, 21, and 24. The T20I series matches will be played on January 27, 29, and 31, and all matches will be held at St. Kitts.

‘Our goal is to secure four points and qualify directly for the ODI World Cup,’ said Joty during a press conference at Mirpur on Saturday.

Bangladesh are currently seventh in the ICC Women›s Championship points table with 19 points, just behind New Zealand, who have 22 points.

They need to win at least two matches against the West Indies to qualify directly for the World Cup in India.

However, Joty was not worried about the equation instead she wanted her side to go for the win.

‘Many calculations may be on the mind, but I want to convey a clear message that we need to play well and seize the opportunity,’ she said.

‘The equations will come later, depending on whether we win the match or not; then we will address it. Our main focus is on winning the matches.’

Joty believes her team is well-prepared to face the challenges posed by the weather and conditions in the Caribbean.

‘Every place presents its own set of challenges. We have to face them. The biggest thing will be to stay positive,’ she said.

Bangladesh seamer Jahanara Alam, who was part of the World Cup team in 2018, opted out of the series, citing personal reasons.

But Joty remained confident with the new side and said it depends on their approach to how they face the challenges.

‘We last played there in 2018, and most of the players are no longer in the squad. How the team approaches this series is crucial. Is it merely a series, or is it a pathway to the World Cup?Â
