Bangladesh Nationalist Party acting chairman Tarique Rahman along with two other senior party leaders has been invited to the forthcoming National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, D.C.
The event, scheduled for February 5–6, is known as an annual diplomatic occasion of significance.
The invited two other leaders are BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and the party’s standing committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury. Â
BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman along with his family has been living in London since 2008.
The party’s media cell member Shairul Kabir Khan confirmed the invitation on behalf of the party secretary general, saying that the event would provide an important opportunity for engagement with global leaders.
The invitation was officially received by BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on January 10, he said.
The National Prayer Breakfast is a prestigious event, regularly attended by political and religious leaders from across the globe.
This year’s gathering will be particularly significant, with newly elected US President Donald Trump presiding.
Held annually on the first Thursday in February, the event, which was known as the Presidential Prayer Breakfast until 1970, has consistently featured the sitting US president.
