
A Bangladesh national was injured as the Indian Border Security Force opened fire at Patgram border in the district along India on Saturday night.
Shahidul Islam, 42, a resident of Jagatber Union under Patgram upazila, sustained bullet injuries to his leg at about 11:30pm on Saturday and the injured was taking treatment at a private hospital in Rangpur.
Border Guard Bangladesh 61 Battalion Shamshernagar company commander Subedar Jahangir Alam said that they held a company-commander-level flag meeting in this regard with the Indian Border Security Force.
‘We have protested at the incident,’ he added.
He said that the BSF fired at the Bangladeshi man, who he was allegedly involved in cattle smuggling.
The incident took place at a time when a tense situation was prevailing in bordering areas between Bangladesh and India over the construction of border fences.
