The government has cancelled the appointment of six members of the Bangladesh Public Service Commission.

The public administration ministry issued a gazette notification in this regard on Monday.

The members are Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University agricultural botany department professor Shahnaz Sarkar, former additional inspector general of police Md Munir Hossain, brigadier general (retired) AF Jaglul Ahmed, former director general of BIAM Foundation Md Mizanur Rahman, former foreign ministry secretary Shabbir Ahmad Chowdhury and former director of National Institute of Kidney Diseases and Urology professor Syeda Shahina Sobhan.

The notification read that the appointments of these newly appointed six members were cancelled following the formal approval of the president.

These six members did not take oath till then, it also mentioned.

The order would be in effect immediately, it added.

On January 2, the government appointed the six members. Following some criticism in the social media, as per some sources in the PSC, their oath taking programme had been postponed.

Some social media posts read that at least three of these members were close to the then Awami League-led government.

At present besides the chairman there are eight members in the PSC.
