Two confronting students’ platforms are scheduled to stage demonstrations today cordoning off the National Curriculum and Textbook Board building in the capital over removal of graffiti on the national minority groups from a textbook.

The organisations are – the Sangkhubdhha Adivasi Chhatra-Janata that represents national minorities, and the Students for Sovereignty – a Dhaka University based organisation.

Recently, the government removed graffiti with ‘adivasi’ word from the back cover of the Bangla second part textbooks for the Classes of IX and X after some criticism.

The board chairman, professor AKM Reazul Hassan, told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that they removed the graffiti as the word ‘advasi’ is absent from the constitution.

Sangkhubdhha Adivasi Chhatra-Janata representative Alik Mree said that they had formed this platform protesting at the removal of the graffiti.

‘Tomorrow we will start a procession from the base of Anti-Violence Raju Memorial Sculpture on the Dhaka University Campus at 11:00am and walk to the NCTB building at around 11:30am to cordon it,’ he said.

Students for Sovereignty joint convener Muhammad Yakub Majumder said, ‘We made this organisation protesting at using of advasi word by interim government chief adviser Muhammad Yunus in his speech,’ he said, adding that on January 12 they gave a five-point charter of demands, including action against Rakhal Raha and formation of a probe committee.

Considering their demands, the government removed the graffiti from the textbook, he said.

Yakub added that they would cordon the NCTB bhaban at around 11:00am today.
