
AKM Khabir Uddin Chowdhury, Abdul Awal Sarkar and Md Shahadat Hossain have been appointed as directors of Janata Bank PLC recently.
Khabir Uddin Chowdhury is a former general manager of the bank. He served as branch manager, head of various important departments and divisions of the head office and received certificates of appreciation and cash awards at various times.
Khabir Uddin graduated from the Department of Economics of Dhaka University in 1970 and a Master鈥檚 degree in 1971. He was born in 1949 in Matlab Uttar upazila of Chandpur.
Abdul Awal Sarkar is a former executive director of Bangladesh Bank. He was the director of the research department of Bangladesh Bank.
He has acquired special expertise in Islamic economics, Islamic banking and finance, Takaful Islamic insurance, monetary policy, Sukuk insurance and management, among other subjects.
Abdul Awal graduated from the Department of Economics, University of Rajshahi in 1981 and completed his postgraduate degree in 1983. Later, in 1998, he completed his MSc in International Banking with distinction from Loughborough University, UK.
Md Shahadat Hossain is a former joint secretary to the government. He joined the service as an officer of the 8th batch of the Administration Cadre in 1989.
He held important positions in various ministries and departments including the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Planning, Ministry of Commerce, Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics, etc.
He has also served as a National Consultant in various international organisations such as WHO, WB, USAID, Population Council, RTM and many other institutions.
Md Shahadat Hossain obtained his PhD in Economics from Victoria University, USA in 2005 and his MSc in Development Economics and Planning from University College London, UK in 2004.
He graduated from the accounting department of Dhaka University in 1984 and completed his Masters in 1985.
