
Politicians and journalists at a human chain in Dhaka on Wednesday demanded the retrial into the case of killing of freedom fighter and Ekushey Padak-winning journalist Manik Chandra Saha.
Friends and admirers of the 抖阴精品 journalist, Manik Saha, killed brutally in front of the Khulna Press Club by unidentified miscreants on January 15 in 2004, formed the human chain in front of the National Press Club.
Former president of Communist Party of Bangladesh Mujahidul Islam Selim demanded retrial into the case of killing to bring the killers to book at the human chain.
He said that Manik Saha was a brave journalist who never feared any attack for the disclosure of truth.
CPB president Ruhin Hossain Prince, lawyer HasanTarique Chowhdury, journalist leader Khairuzzaman Kamal, senior journalists Ashis Kumar Dey, Nikhil Chandra Bhadra, Shakila Ruma, among others, spoke at the human chain.
According to the organisers, Manik Saha Smriti Parishad Khulna, Khulna Press Club, Khulna unit of CPB, Bangladesh Chhatra Union, Ratan Sen Public Library formed separate protest rally in Khulna city, demanding retrial of Manik Saha killing.
Marking the day, family members of Manik Saha placed wreath on the portrait of the journalist and also demanded retrial of the killing.
Born at Kalia in Narail on June 10, 1956, Manik Saha was president of Khulna Press Club.
On November 30, 2016, nine people were jailed for life-term for killing Manik but the family members and the journalist community rejected the verdict and demanded retrial and reinvestigation into the murder case.
The journalist was posthumously awarded Ekushey Padak in 2009.
