Fifty seven more Bangladeshi nationals evacuated from war-torn Lebanon arrived in Dhaka on Thursday.

A total of 1,199 Bangladeshi migrants returned home from the war-torn west Asian country amid the ongoing conflict between Hezbollah and Israel.


A press release by the ministry of foreign affairs said that the group arrived in Dhaka on Thursday morning.

The foreign ministry, the expatriates’ welfare ministry, the Bangladesh embassy in Beirut, and the International Organisation for Migration are jointly working to bring back the Bangladeshis.

The Bangladesh government in cooperation with others brought the migrants back on 18 flights. Several other migrants are still waiting for return.

The IOM gave each returnee Tk 5,000 pocket money, some food, and basic medical assistance.

The MOFA said that the government would cover all costs associated with the repatriation of the Bangladeshi expatriates who wished to return due to the conflict in Lebanon.

Officials said that a list of some 2,000 Bangladeshis got prepared to repatriate in the first phase.

According to Bangladesh Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training statistics, at least 2,67,364 Bangladeshis migrated to the country since 2002. Of them, 61,786 had migrated since 2015.

Over one lakh Bangladeshi migrants are now working in the West Asian country.
