
Leaders of the Communist Party of Bangladesh on Monday demanded punishment for killers involved in killing party鈥檚 leaders and activists in a bomb attack on party鈥檚 January 20, 2001 rally at Paltan Maidan.聽
The CPB observed the day by erecting a temporary monument in front of the party central office at Purana Paltan.
At least five party leaders and activists including Himagshu, Majid, Hashem, Mokter and Bipradas were killed in the attack on the party rally.
Former president of the party, Mujahidul Islam Selim, demanded immediate arrest of the killers and their exemplary punishment.
CPB general secretary Ruhin Hossain Prince said that the advancement of the CPB could not be stopped by orchestrating attacks and killings.
He called on the interim government to hold the next general election in a free, fair and credible manner for democratic transition of the country.
Assistant general secretary of the party, Mihir Ghosh, conducted the rally.
Floral wreaths were placed at the monument by the central leaders of the CPB, its front organisations, Left Democratic Alliance, Socialist Party of Bangladesh, Revolutionary Communist League, Revolutionary Workers Party, Socialist P arty of Bangladesh (Marxist) and others.
