At least seven students, including a woman, who were involved in the July uprising, were injured in a clash reportedly with the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement members at its central office on Tuesday.

The incident took place at the platform’s central office in Banglamotor of the capital at about 3:30pm, said Tarequl Islam, inspector of the Ramna police station.


Dhaka Medical College Hospital police outpost in-charge Md Faruk said that seven injured students were brought to the DMCH emergency department.

The injured are Asif, 21, Anta Mim, 22, Mohammad Abrar, 23, Al Amin, 23, Mohammad Emran, 23, Mohammad Masud, 22, and Mohammad Afsar Uddin, 22.

The situation was normal as of 8:00pm on Tuesday, inspector Tarequl said.

A group of students who were involved in the July-August movement, held a press conference at the DMCH at about 7:30pm where they said that they were attacked while they were returning from a views exchange meeting on Monday night.

A member of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, Ashiqur Rahman Hridoy was behind the attack, Tanjim Mohammad Sarowar Reza alleged at the briefing.

‘After the incident, we went to the platform’s central office at about 2:30pm, demanding justice for the attack on Monday,’ he said, adding that an altercation occurred between the two groups.

At one point, the platform’s central committee leader Rifat Rashid gave orders for the attack by locking them in a room, leaving some of them injured, the students alleged.

They demanded removal of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement’s leaders involved in the attack and bringing the attackers to book.

The Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in a statement on Tuesday evening said that a probe committee was formed to investigate the incident.

Central executive committee members Rifat Rashid, Ahnaf Saeed Khan, Naeem Abedin and Asad Bin Rony were attacked when they tried to listen to demands of people gathered at the central office,  the platform alleged, saying that some of the people participated in the July uprising.
