The Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport authorities again received a potential bomb threat call on Wednesday night and the authorities checked people and planes till 2:30am on Thursday to ensure security.

The security has been tightened but no bombs or explosives were found in the airport area.


‘We have received another potential threat in an Armed Police Battalion duty officer number from an unknown Malaysian WhatsApp number at about 11:00pm on Wednesday. As per protocol, we are working in coordination with all agencies and we have tightened the security,’ said HSIA executive director Group Captain Muhammed Kamrul Islam.

He said that all operations at HSIA were running normally.

‘We request people not to be panicked. No threat has been found,’ he added.

He said that the security at the airport had been tightened due to the hoax.

On Wednesday morning, panic had gripped people at HISA after receiving information about a potential bomb attack on a Dhaka-bound Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight from Rome.

Amid an alert issued by the civil aviation authorities and intensified security measures sustaining for about six and a half hours, the BG-356 Biman carrier landed at the airport at about 9:20am, according to the airport and CAAB officials.

‘We have received a message on WhatsApp from a Pakistani phone number that bombs or explosives were installed in the flight. We have combed the entire carrier, all passengers and luggage, but no bombs or explosives were detected,’ CAAB chairman Air Vice Marshal Md Monjur Kabir Bhuiyan told a press conference at HSIA on Wednesday.
