Politicians and Urdu-speaking people living in Bangladesh on Thursday alleged that the Urdu-speaking people residing in different camps across the country were still facing repression.
They made the demand in a human chain jointly formed by the Urdu-speaking Peoples Youth Rehabilitation Movement, and the Mohagir Rehabilitation and Development Movement in front of the National Press Club.
Nagarik Oikya president Mahmudur Rahman Manna, who joined the demonstration virtually, said that the Urdu-speaking people living in Bangladesh faced harassment during the fascist rule of Sheikh Hasina who was ousted amid a student-mass uprising on August 5, 2024.
But, he said, it was unfortunate that such harassment was continuing during the rule of the interim government though they had participated in the mass uprising in July and August.
He urged the interim government to take initiatives so that the Urdu-speaking people could live in their camps peacefully.
USPYRM president Sadakat Khan Fakku, who chaired the rally, alleged that motivated cases were filed against their people during the fascist Awami League regime and the situation was still continuing.
Nagarik Oikya general secretary Shahidulla Kaiser said that his party would remain beside the Urdu-speaking people to stop harassing them.
Leaders of Urdu-speaking people Shahid Ali Babul and Mehtab Kaderi, among others, also spoke.
