The prices of rice and soya bean oil went up on the kitchen markets in the capital Dhaka over the week ending Friday.

Retailers said that the prices of rice increased as mill owners increased the rate of the staple food.


They also said that the prices of edible oil continued to rise in past two weeks due to the price hike of the item on the wholesale market.

The prices of rice increased by Tk 2 a kilogram over the week on the city markets and the coarse and medium-quality varieties of rice sold for Tk 55–60 a kilogram on Friday.

Lower-grade Miniket sold for Tk 72-75 a kilogram over the week.

The fine variety of Miniket sold for Tk 82–85 a kilogram and Najirshail for Tk 85-90 a kilogram on Friday.

The price of soya bean oil increased by Tk 2 a litre in past one week and the unpackaged item sold for Tk 170-172 a litre while the packaged item sold for Tk 175-177 a litre on Friday.

A five-litre bottle of soya bean oil sold for Tk 850-852 on the city markets.

Palm oil sold for Tk 160-165 a litre on the day.

The price of broiler chicken also remained high and the item sold for Tk 190-220 a kilogram while Sonalika variety of chicken sold for Tk 340-350 a kilogram on the day.

The prices of most vegetables decreased on the market over the week.

Aubergine sold for Tk 40-60 a kilogram, papaya for Tk 30-40 a kilogram, bitter gourd for Tk 70-90 a kilogram, beans for Tk 30-40 a kilogram, cabbage for Tk 20-30 apiece, cauliflower for Tk 20-30 apiece, radish for Tk 20 a kilogram and tomato for Tk 40-50 a kilogram on Friday.

The price of green chillies remained stable and the item sold for Tk 70-80 a kilogram in the city on the day.  The price of potatoes also decreased and the item sold for Tk 30-40 a kilogram on the city’s kitchen markets on Friday.

The prices of onions decreased by Tk 5 a kilogram and its local variety sold for Tk 50-60 a kilogram while the imported item sold for Tk 50-70 a kilogram on Friday.

The prices of garlic remained high and its local variety retailed at Tk 240–260 a kilogram while imported garlic sold for Tk 220–240 a kilogram on the day.

The price of sugar remained high over the week and the item sold for Tk 125-130 a kilogram on Friday.

The price of eggs remained unchanged and the item sold for Tk 45-48 a hali (four pieces) on the city’s kitchen markets on Friday.

Rohita sold for Tk 300–450 a kilogram and Katla for Tk 300–450 a kilogram, depending on size and quality.

Pangas sold for Tk 200–230 a kilogram and Tilapia for Tk 220–230 a kilogram on Friday.

The coarse variety of red lentil sold for Tk 105-110 a kilogram and the medium-quality variety for Tk 115–120 a kilogram on Friday.

The price of fine variety of red lentil remained high and the item sold for Tk 135–140 a kilogram on Friday.
