The admission test for the undergraduate programme of the Arts, Law, and Social Science unit of Dhaka University under the 2024-2025 academic session was held on Saturday.
The test was held on the DU campus and also in seven other divisional cities across the country from 11:00am to 12.30pm on the day.
The university vice-chancellor, professor Niaz Ahmad Khan, visited the examination centre in Arts Building at the campus.
He was accompanied by pro-vice chancellors professor Sayema Haque Bidisha, and pro-vice-chancellor professor Mamun Ahmed, treasurer professor M Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Dean of the Faculty of Arts professor Mohammad Siddiqur Rahman Khan, and associate professor Saifuddin Ahmed, the university proctor.
After visiting the exam halls, vice-chancellor Niaz Ahmad Khan expressed his satisfaction with the smooth and peaceful conduct of the admission test.
Talking to journalists, he said that the quota system for undergraduate admissions in the 2025-26 academic year had been rationally reformed.
‘Instead of including the grandchildren of freedom fighters, the quota now applies only to their children. This reform ensures that merit-based candidates will have better opportunities for admission in the absence of excessive quotas,’ said Niaz Ahmad.
This year, a total of 125,500 applicants applied for 2,934 seats in this unit. Of these, 55,165 candidates from the humanities group applied for 1,707 seats, 56,330 candidates from the science group for 944 seats, and 14,005 candidates from the business studies applied for 283 seats.
