The Rapid Action Battalion said on Saturday that it had arrested 10 suspected muggers along with sharp weapons in Dhaka’s Mohammadpur and Adabar areas.

The arrested are Md Mehedi, 28, Md Mainuddin 22, Md Sharif alias Mohon, 30, Md Moin Ali, 20, Ahmed Amit, 22, Md Masum, 34, Md Chanu Mia, 28, Md Shahin, 27, Md Ibrahim Khalil, 22 and Akash, 19.


Of them, Mehedi was the prime accused in a robbery case and had long been involved in different criminal activities, including mugging, drug trade and extortion, said a RAB press release on Saturday.

The RAB in its press release said that on information teams of the RAB 2 conducted separate drives in Mohammadpur and Adabar areas in the capital on Friday night and arrested the muggers along with some sharp weapons.

At least 10 locally made sharp weapons, including knives and machetes, were also seized during the drives, said the press release.

‘The arrested muggers are involved in snatching valuables, including cash, gold jewellery and mobile phones from pedestrians in different parts of the capital with the sharp weapons,’ the release also said.

The RAB would continue its operations to arrest the muggers in the city, the RAB said, adding that the arrested were handed over to Mohammadpur and Adabar police stations.
