
A total of 95 illegally imported mobile phones were seized on Sunday at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram.Â
Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate officials, with the assistance of the National Security Intelligence, made the seizure, said Mohammad Ibrahim Khalil, the public relations officer of the airport.
Ibrahim Khalil said that the phones were discovered on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight BG-152 that arrived from Sharjah of the United Arab Emirates on Sunday morning.
A trolley bag, found abandoned on the aircraft, was seized during the operation. The intelligence officers found 49 Samsung smartphones and 46 Nokia feature phones in the bag, the officer said.
The estimated value of the seized items, including customs duties, stands at Tk 18.3 lakh.
The phones have been handed over to the airport customs authority, Ibrahim said.
‘No passenger has yet to claim the trolley,’ he added.
