A group of entrepreneurs from Joyeeta Foundation on Monday demanded the rehabilitation in the foundation’s building after being instructed to vacate their spaces at Rapa Plaza by March 31.

At a press conference held at the National Press Club in Dhaka, an entrepreneur of the foundation, Kohinoor Akter, said that the ousted Awami League government had allocated spaces to each association of female entrepreneurs for product sales in exchange for a specified security deposit at Rapa Plaza in Dhanmond-27.

She said that the AL government had initially assured the entrepreneurs that they would be relocated to the Joyeeta Tower with allocated spaces. They, however, were later served a notice to vacate two floors of them at Rapa Plaza without any such arrangement.

‘When contacted, the government said that it planned to operate business in the Joyeeta Tower differently, allowing entrepreneurs to supply their products,’ she said, adding that if the products remained unsold, the owners would have to take them back.

The entrepreneurs alleged that this decision would leave many women unemployed, ultimately hindering women’s empowerment.

The foundation was established under the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs in 2011.Â
