Defending champions Bashundhara Kings advanced to the second round of the Federation Cup as Group A champions with a crushing 5-0 win over Dhaka Wanderers Club at the Rafiq Uddin Bhuiyan Stadium in Mymensingh on Tuesday.

Brothers Union also confirmed their second-round berth of the 10-team competition as the group runners-up after a goalless draw in the day鈥檚 other match at the Shaheed Dhirendranath Datta Stadium in Cumilla.


In Mymensingh, Kings went to the break with a 2-0 lead after Brazilian midfielder Miguel Damasceno broke the deadlock in the 18th minute before a midfielder, Sohel Rana, scored in the 40th minute.

Kings came all guns blazing in the second half, which forced Wanders to concede an own goal in the 55th minute, with midfielder Nazmul Islam Rasel putting the ball into his own net.

Midfielder Sohel Rana Junior and defender Topu Barman completed the rout by scoring in the 70th and 77th minutes, respectively.

In their next round of games, Kings will play the first qualifier against Group B champions while Brothers will play against Group B runners-up in the eliminator match.

The top two places of Group B will be decided after the remaining two matches of the tournament scheduled to be played on February 4.

The winning team of the first qualifier will directly qualify for the final, while the winners of the play-off qualifier will seal the other spot in the final.

The play-off qualifier will be played between the losing team of the first qualifier and the winners of the eliminator match.
