
A ship carrying 22,000 tonnes of atap rice, imported from Myanmar, has anchored at the Chattogram Port. 聽
The rice consignment, imported on a government-to-government basis, is the second shipment of its kind under the current interim government, said the Ministry of Food in a media release on Wednesday.
In addition to this, another consignment of 15,000 tonnes of non-basmati or parboiled rice reached Chattogram Port by MV BMC PANDORA vessel, the release added.聽
The import consignment arrived as part of government鈥檚 plan to import a total of nine lakh tonnes of rice for the fiscal year 2024-25 through government-to-government arrangements and open tenders.聽
Under the plan, one lakh tonnes of white rice will be imported from Myanmar at $515 per tonne and 3,00,000 lakh tonnes non-basmati or parboiled from India.
With the arrival of 22,000 tonnes, a total of 52,000 tonnes of atap rice have already been imported from Myanmar and another consignment of 30,000 tonnes of atap rice will come by the end of this month.
聽The rest of the consignment of atap is scheduled to arrive in the middle of February.
