Local people on Wednesday blocked the road at Rampura in the capital Dhaka, by stopping a Ramzan Paribahan bus to protest at the death of 15-year-old Sajid Hossain, who was killed in a bus accident on Saturday.
The protest began at about 1:00pm at Rampura Bazar under the Hatirjheel police station, causing disruption to traffic in the area.
Confirming the matter, Hatirjheel police station officer-in-charge Md Raju said that a group of local people blocked the road protesting at 15-year-old Sajid’s death and demanded taking proper action against the bus driver that killed him.
As a result of the protest, traffic was halted on the Badda-Rampura-Malibagh road, creating traffic congestion in the area for about 20 minutes, he said.
‘I assured the protesters of working to arrest the culprit as soon as possible,’ the OC said, adding that the protesters later left the road.
Sajid Hossain, who used work at a motorcycle repairing shop, was critically injured after a Ramzan Paribahan bus ran him over while walking on the road at Rampura on Saturday.
He succumbed to his injuries on his way to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, the OC said.
