The Gono Bishwabidyalay held a daylong Pitha Festival to uphold Bengali culture and tradition among the students on its campus at Savar in Dhaka on Thursday.

Vice-chancellor of the university, Professor Md Abul Hossain, inaugurated the festival by releasing kites and pigeons at the central playground of the university, said a press release.


Students from different departments participated in the festival with delicious varieties of pithas decorated with different names.

The festival venue became bustling with the diverse presentations of the students.

Apart from the university teachers and students, people around the campus enjoy this festival.

Folk music, dance, songs and poetry recitations were also performed throughout the day at the festival. The band ‘Highway’ also performed on stage at the festival.

Treasurer of the GB Professor Md Sirajul Islam and acting registrar Abu Muhammad Mukammel, along with  the deans and heads of departments of various faculties were present at the festival.
