Detective Branch chief Rezaul Karim Mallik on Saturday said that operations were ongoing to arrest listed criminals, including Imam-ul-Hasan alias Picchi Helal and Sanjidul Islam Emon, who were released on bail after August 5.

Speaking at a press briefing at Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s media centre on Minto Road in the city, he stated that they were conducting regular operations to arrest them. ‘Be it Picchi Helal or Emon, no one will be spared.’

When asked about their whereabouts, he admitted that police had yet to trace them. ‘We have already arrested several associates from the Picchi Helal and Emon groups. Our operations continue, and they will certainly be arrested.’

Both Helal and Emon have been recently implicated in cases involving murder and mugging.

Emon is the prime suspect in a case related to a brutal attack on two businessmen in Dhaka’s Elephant Road area, leaving them critically injured.

According to jail authorities, Emon was released from Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj on August 15, 2024, after being incarcerated since December 8, 2015.

Meanwhile, Picchi Helal was released from Kashimpur High-Security Central Jail on August 16, 2024, after being jailed since January 12 in 2000.
