The Anti-Corruption Commission on Sunday conducted a drive at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Super Specialised Hospital in Dhaka, following allegations of irregularities in recruitment and hospital operations.

The ACC鈥檚 Enforcement Team, led by its assistant director, Abul Kalam Azad, visited the hospital鈥檚 administration office and met with its administrative officials and collected relevant records regarding allegations of corruption in operations and recruitment of the staff members.

During the drive, preliminary evidence was found suggesting irregularities in the procurement of medical equipment, said ACC deputy director for public relations Aktarul Islam.

The team also discovered discrepancies in the training and recruitment of hospital staff members under a project funded by the government.

Under the project, 157 employees were sent to South Korea for specialised training, on condition that they would serve the hospital for at least five years upon their return, Aktarul said.

It, however, was revealed that 85 employees failed to join the hospital after completing their training, said the ACC official.

It was also found that a huge number of staff members were sent abroad for training, violating project guidelines, while irregularities were also found in the operation of two banks and a pharmacy on the hospital premises.

The Enforcement Team has stated that they will thoroughly examine the collected documents and submit a comprehensive report to the ACC for further action.
