A 13-year-old girl, abducted from Dhaka’s Dakshinkhan, was raped and murdered by five attackers who dumped her body in Hatirjheel, the police revealed on Monday after recovering her decomposed body.
The deputy commissioner of Uttara Division, Rawnaq Jahan, in a press briefing on Monday, revealed that the eighth-grader was abducted on January 16 and later raped and murdered.
The crime came to light after her body was recovered from the Hatirjheel area on Sunday, he added.
Two suspects, Robin Hossain, 32, and Rabbi Mridha, 26, were arrested on January 30 in Sreepur of Gazipur, in connection with the incident, she said, adding that police recovered the body following information provided by the arrestees.
On Jan 19, the father of the victim filed a general diary with Dakshinkhan police station and later lodged an abduction case on January 27 after learning from local people that a group of men had abducted her in a private car near Joynal Market in Dakshinkhan, DC Rawnaq said.
Using technological assistance, the police traced the suspects through the victim’s mobile number and arrested Robin and Rabbi, she said.
After they were remanded for two days, they confessed their involvement in the incident and the police recovered the victim’s body at 8:45am on Sunday, she said.
Citing their confession under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code, DC Rawnaq said that Robin and Rabbi trapped the victim and took her to a house in Mohakhali, where the duo along with three others raped her tying her hands, feet and face.
At one point the girl died and Robin and Rabbi planned to hide the body, she said, adding that they put her body inside a bag and dumped it near Hatirjheel.
‘The police are working to arrest the remaining suspects involved in the incident,’ added the police official.
