The Anti-Corruption Commission on Monday filed three cases against former social welfare minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed, his wife and son on charges of amassing illegal wealth of Tk 8.5 crore and suspicious transactions of Tk聽134 crore.

The cases were filed with the commission鈥檚 integrated district office in Dhaka-1, said its director general Md Aktar Hossain.


The commission filed a cases against Nuruzzaman on charges of amassing illegal assets of Tk 5.31 crore and suspicious transactions of Tk聽62.8 crore, another against his wife Hosne Ara Begum on charges of amassing illegal assets of Tk 1.23 crore and suspicious transactions of Tk聽50.43 crore and the third against their son Mohammad Rakibuzzaman Ahmed on charges of amassing illegal assets of Tk 2.07 crore and suspicious transactions of Tk聽22.43 crore.

Nuruzzaman was also named in the cases filed against his wife and son.

The cases were filed under the Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2004, the Money Laundering Prevention Act 2012, the Prevention of Corruption Act 1947 and the Penal Code.

After the ouster of the Awami League government amid student-led mass uprising on August 5, 2024, the commission started an inquiry into corruption allegations against Nuruzzmana Ahmed on September 5.

Nuruzzaman was arrested by a law enforcement agency in Rangpur on January 30 in connection with a number of cases and now he is on a five-day remand in a murder case.
