Five people were killed and five others were injured in road accidents in Feni and Rajshahi on Monday night.

In Feni, three youths were killed on Monday night when their motorcycle lost control and crashed on the Noakhali-Feni regional road in Dagonbhuiyan upazila.


The victims — Antar Gosh,18, of village Jugidia in Noakhali’s Companiganj upazila, Sourav Gopal, 23, of village Alipur in Begumganj upazila, and Debu Boishab, 21, of village Birahimpur in Companiganj — were returning home from Feni when the tragic incident occurred.

According to Delwar Hossain, a witness of the acident, the motorcycle was speeding along the road when it struck a log of tree left by the roadside in Asharfpur, near Bakerbazar.

All three riders fell on the road and before they could recover, a speeding vehicle from behind ran over two of them — Sourav and Debu — leaving them dead on the spot.

Antar was rushed to Feni General Hospital but he died on the way, said Md Sujan, doctor of the hospital.

Mohipal Highway Police Station officer-in-charge Md Harunur Rashid said that police recovered two bodies from the accident site.

The bodies were sent to hospital morgue for post-mortem examinations, and legal formalities would be taken in this regard.

In Rajshahi, two people were killed and five others were injured in a road accident in Paba upazila.

The accident took place in Notun Kasba area of Rajshahi-Chapainawabganj highway as a Dhaka-bound Desh Travels bus ran over a battery-powered auto-rickshaw and fled the scene at about 6:00pm on Monday, said Damkura Police Station officer-in-charge Rabiul Islam.

The deceased were identified as Md Ibrahim, 27, son of Takibul Islam of village Faradpur in Godagari upazila, and Md Maruf, 25, son of Rahim Munshi of village Matikata of the same upazila.

Local people rescued the injured and took them to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital where doctors declared the two dead.

The bus, coming from Chapainawabganj, hit the auto-rickshaw and drove away. Seven passengers sustained severe injuries, and two were later declared dead at the hospital,’ the OC said.
