An 11-year-old girl, identified as Arabi Islam Suba, who went missing from Mohammadpur in Dhaka on Sunday evening, was found in Naogaon on Tuesday.
Confirming the matter, Adabor police station officer-in-charge SM Jakaria said the girl’s family members were travelling to Naogaon to bring her back.
Additional deputy commissioner of Tejgaon zone Md Jewel Rana said that it was not an abduction case and the girl willingly went with the 21-year-old boy.
‘If the girl’s family wants to take legal action regarding the incident considering her age, the police will work on the matter,’ he said.
Rapid Action Battalion’s legal and media wing deputy director Major Md Ashiqur Rahman said that teams of RAB-2 and RAB-5 rescued the girl from Naogaon.
‘She is in RAB’s custody and will be handed over to the family after completing legal formalities,’ he said at about 5:30pm on Tuesday.
A video of the girl saying she was okay went viral on social media platforms on Tuesday.
When asked who recorded the video, OC Jakaria said that the father of the boy she went with recorded the video asking her if she was okay.
The girl’s father Md Emran Razib could not be reached for comments.
The police, quoting family members, said that the girl, a grade VI student at a school in Barishal, came to Dhaka with her family for the treatment of her mother, who is battling lung cancer.
The girl left home at about 5:30pm on Sunday with her cousin, who was the same age as her.
She went missing when they were crossing the road near Prince Bazar in the Krishi Market area.
