
The numbers of new titles increased on Wednesday, the fifth day of the ongoing month-long Amar Ekuskey Book Fair being organised by the Bangla Academy at Suhrawardy Udyan and the Bangla Academy premises in the capital Dhaka.
A total of 98 new titles hit the fair on Wednesday, raising the total number of books published in the fair to 145 so far, according to academy officials.
Out of 98 new titles which hit the fair on Wednesday, 33 were collections of poems and 18 were novels while 13 were collections of short stories.
Agami Prakashani proprietor Osman Gani said that his publishing house planned to publish more than 70 books, most of them articles, research and politics.
‘We publish books all the year round and focus on free thinking and freedom of speech. Today we will unveil a novel by Hasnat Abdul Hye on the July mass uprising,’ said Osman.
Saeed Bari, chief executive of publishing house Suchipatra, said that they planned to publish more than 40 books, most of them non-fiction and translation.
‘This year we have published a book as our theme titled Bangali Musolman: Atmaonneshan which is edited by Mohammad Abdul Hye. Besides, a lot of translations, most of them non-fiction will be published at the fair,’ Saeed said, adding that they also published books all the year round instead of creating pressure during the fair.
