
A large number of people, including students continued to demolishing the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum building at Dhanmondi in Dhaka city till Thursday noon.
Two bulldozers went back from the spot at 10:00am on Thursday and agitators are now demolishing the parts of two buildings with hammers.
In the afternoon, students were seen chanting slogans like ‘Nara e Takbeer Allahu Akbar’, ‘Mujibbad Murdabad Inquilab Zindabad’, ‘Swairacharer Astana Bhenge Dao Guriye Dao’ ‘Delhi or Dhaka, Dhaka Dhaka’.
Witnesses said that a bulldozer, arriving at the spot midnight past Wednesday, started felling trees and razing the historic building to the ground.
Before the arrival of the bulldozer, the agitators were seen to fetch a private company crane at the site.
A yellow colour bulldozer came to the Dhanmondi-32 at about 12:10am on Thursday and later in the early morning another blue colour bulldozer joined the another for demolishing buildings.
Several hundered visitors were also thronged the venue to watch the demolition of the historic buildings.
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman ran his political activities from the Dhanmondi-32 residence that was damaged during the War of Independence in 1971 and was later repaired.
The building was listed as a national heritage in 2009 by the Rajdhani Unnyan Kartipakkha.
