At least 15 students were injured in an attack by local people as several dozens of students reportedly went to attack the ousted Awami League government’s liberation war affairs minister AKM Mozammel Haque in Gazipur on Friday night.
The incident took place at about 10:00pm on Friday when people, including members of Student Movement Against Discrimination went to attack the house of Mozammel Haque in Gazipur city, according to police and witnesses.
They said that some people announced in the mosque that robbers entered the area and local people beat the attackers.
Gazipur Sadar police station officer-in-charge Md Arifur Rahman said that 15 students were rescued by the army and police and were admitted to Shahid Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital in Gazipur.
‘The attack on the former liberation war affairs minister was launched by Students Against Discrimination. Most of the injured are students,’ the OC added.
Five students were admitted to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital, said DMCH police outpost in-charge Md Faruk.
Denouncing the attack on students, Students Against Discrimination called a protest rally at Rajbari in Gazipur at about 1:30pm on Saturday.
They alleged that goons of AKM Mozammel Haque and former Gazipur City mayor Jahangir launched the attack on students.
